Join us for a fun and interactive look at many of the hot topics in educational technology that teachers can use to enhance their curriculum. Connecting sites will enjoy an interactive game show providing examples of multiple technology tools (many free) and ways they can reach students academic needs.

What is RSS and how can it help me reach students and parents?

 

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is quickly becoming a standard piece to all of our technologies tools. Classroom teachers will take a closer look at RSS and how it can be used to help communication and projects.

Going beyond email – Using Outlook to improve your organization and productivity

 

Classroom teachers will take a look at how MS Outlook can provide them much more than just email. Demonstrations of distribution lists, calendars, tasks and scheduling can be optimized using the software already loaded on your PC.

Yawn, oh your PowerPoint is Finished?? Advanced PowerPoint

 

Are you the only person in your classroom impressed with your PowerPoint presentation? Classroom teachers will look at many different ways they can use PowerPoint to enhance their materials and instruction. PowerPoint Games, custom graphics, posting presentations on the web and instructing with PowerPoint will be demonstrated. Participating teachers will receive several PowerPoint Game templates to use with their lessons.

Blogging is no longer for tech geeks or political activists. Blogs have stepped into the K-12 community with surprising vigor. Classroom teachers will take a look at publishing to the internet and how classroom teachers can use this resource to enhance their curricula and open their classroom to parents and their community.

Podcasting in K-12 education. Fad or the Future

 

The technology buzz word of 2005 was podcasting and has now made its way to the K-12 community. With MP3 players dropping below the $50 mark and Apples launch of iPod shuffle iPods are in more of our student’s pockets than ever before. Can educators use this to reach our students and parents?  Classroom teachers will take a look at podcasting, iTunes and the different types of MP3 players that are on the market and in our student’s backpacks.

Hot Topic: Wiki’s –Online collaborative learning made easy?

 

One of the hottest topics in K-12 technology is the use of collaboration through online resources. A Wiki is a type of website that allows users to easily add, remove, or otherwise edit and change some available content, sometimes without the need for registration. Teachers will discuss the value of such a product and walk through the start of their very own online collaboration tool!

Since Google went public on Wall Street it has become a household word, but did you know it was a translator, an online library for images, video & full text literature, a shopping portal, phone book, atlas, a photo shop and so much more. Join the LCDLC as we take a closer look at Google and its many applications for school and home.

Navigating web based learning through Thinkfinity

 

Marco Polo is a free web portal for educators aligned to national standards with lessons and materials that teachers can use to enhance their instruction. Using the portal, classroom teachers find school appropriate websites and save planning time. Teachers will walk through the portal, search for content and discover how easy they can align their lessons to Ohio’s standards.

Desktop videoconferencing is one of the best kept secrets in video communication. Join NORT²H for a look closer look at Skype, ooVoo and other FREE programs you can use with a webcam and an internet connection. See how Skype has taken a leap above the rest but learn some of the risk factors that keep this as an emerging technology in K-12 education.

During this session, educators will identify instant messaging software that supports video, take a closer look at web cams and investigate software that will connect to traditional videoconferencing systems and multi conferencing units/ bridges.
